How Ingredient Lists Are Ordered
By regulation in most markets, including the UAE, cosmetic ingredients must be listed in descending order by concentration, meaning the first few ingredients make up the bulk of the product, while ingredients toward the end of the list are typically present in very small amounts. This ordering is genuinely useful: if a product markets itself around a specific "hero ingredient" but that ingredient appears near the bottom of a long list, it's likely present in a token amount rather than a meaningfully effective concentration.
Common Ingredients Worth Understanding

Synthetic fragrance ("parfum" or "fragrance"). One of the most common causes of skin irritation and allergic reactions, and notably, this term can legally hide dozens of individual undisclosed chemical components under a single word on the label.
Mineral oil and petrolatum. Effective, inert occlusive ingredients, generally considered safe, though some prefer to avoid petroleum-derived ingredients for personal or environmental reasons rather than a specific safety concern.
Silicones (Dimethicone and similar ingredients). Create a smooth, silky feel and can be genuinely useful for certain skin concerns, though some people find they trap heat and contribute to breakouts, worth being aware of if you have oily or acne-prone skin.
