From Sourcing to Bottle: A Look Inside How Hayat Naturals Is Made

We talk often about our ingredients and the reasoning behind our formulations, but less often about the actual process behind getting a product from raw material to the bottle or bar that reaches your hands. Here's an honest look at what that process actually involves.

Sourcing: Where It All Starts

Every ingredient we use starts with a sourcing decision, and we don't treat this step lightly. For tallow, this means working with suppliers who can verify halal slaughter practices and ethical, grass-fed sourcing, since both the quality of the fatty acid profile and the values our customers expect depend on getting this right from the very beginning.

For botanical ingredients like rose, frankincense, and argan, sourcing means identifying suppliers who can speak clearly to harvesting practices, particularly important for ingredients like frankincense where overharvesting has become a genuine sustainability concern globally. We prioritize suppliers who demonstrate sustainable, responsible harvesting over those simply offering the lowest price.

Rendering and Purification

Once tallow arrives, it goes through a careful rendering process, slowly melting and purifying the raw fat to remove impurities and any residual proteins, resulting in a clean, stable base ready for saponification. This step requires patience and attention, rushing it results in a lower-quality end product with a shorter shelf life and less desirable texture.

Cold-Process Saponification

For our soap bars, purified tallow is combined with other oils and an alkali solution in a cold-process method, meaning no external heat is applied during the initial reaction. This preserves more of the beneficial properties of the oils used compared to hot-process methods, though it requires a longer curing period, typically four to six weeks, before the bars are ready for use.

Cold Infusion for Botanical Oils

For products like Al Iksir, key botanical ingredients are cold-infused into a carrier oil base over a four-week period, allowing beneficial compounds to gradually transfer from the raw plant material into the oil without the use of heat or industrial solvents. This is one of the slowest, least efficient parts of our entire production process, and one we've deliberately chosen not to shortcut.

Quality Checks Along the Way

Throughout this process, we check for consistency in texture, scent, and appearance at each stage, comparing against previous batches to ensure what leaves our workshop meets the same standard every time. Small-batch production allows for this level of attention in a way that large-scale, automated manufacturing generally doesn't.

Packaging and Final Preparation

Once cured or infused, products are hand-poured, hand-wrapped, or hand-bottled, depending on the specific item, with labeling that reflects our full, transparent ingredient lists rather than vague marketing summaries. We package with minimal, purposeful materials, avoiding unnecessary plastic or excess packaging where reasonable alternatives exist.

Getting Products to You

Given our direct, WhatsApp-first ordering approach, products typically move from our workshop to your hands without passing through multiple layers of retail distribution, keeping the process more direct and allowing us to maintain closer quality control over the final steps before a product reaches you.

Why We're Sharing All of This

Transparency about process is something we believe should be as standard as transparency about ingredients. It's easy for any brand to claim "natural" or "handcrafted" on packaging, it's a different thing entirely to walk through, step by step, what that actually involves and why each stage of the process matters for the quality of what you're ultimately putting on your skin.

An Ongoing Commitment

As Hayat Naturals grows, we're committed to maintaining this level of care in our process rather than shortcutting it for the sake of scale. If you ever have questions about how a specific product is made, beyond what's covered here, we're always glad to walk through it directly, because we believe understanding how something is made is part of genuinely trusting what you're using on your skin every day.
